Focus Group Overview
As part of the City of Prior Lake’s strategic planning process, three focus groups were conducted on July 14th.
Participants included members of the business community, civic organizations, and city advisory boards.

Focus Group Process
A focus group is a small-group discussion guided by a trained facilitator.
It is used to gather in-depth information about a community's thoughts and opinions about a designated topic.
In the case of the City of Prior Lake’s focus groups, the subject was strengths and challenges for the city.
The meetings ran for approximately 70-90 minutes and participants were recruited by city staff.

Participants highly complimentary of city services and staff
“It’s easy to get things done with the city”
City is responsive, communicative, and transparent
City is proactive and collaborative (CEO Roundtable, advocate to other governments)
Community parks and trails are clean
Road quality is improving but better maintenance should have been done in the past
Snow removal is exceptional
Streets and sidewalks cleaned sooner than in other communities
City maintained flowers gorgeous and bought from local business
Golf cart permit is appreciated
Planning and infrastructure well thought out
“Even if there are disagreements, the city figures out how to work it out.”
City commission members should have better understanding of vision

Bike and pedestrian crossing needed (tunnel or overpass)
Speed limits on highways 13 and 21 should be reduced through town
Information about upcoming road work was well communicated
