The purpose of this letter is to report the findings of a structural engineering review of a potential
interior bearing condition at the above residence.
ASSIGNMENT
Ulteig Engineers has been retained to provide a structural engineering review of the proposed
removal of various interior upper level framewalls at the residence located at 2977 Spring Lake
Road in Prior Lake, MN as directed by Rob Warmka, the contractor.
BACKGROUND
The contractor is proposing to renovate the residence and remove and/or relocate several of the
upper level interior framewalls. Approximately half of the roof trusses are standard pre-
engineered trusses that span from the front exterior walls to the rear. However, in the central
section of the house, the roof trusses contain an interior vault. The contractor is requesting an
independent structural engineering review of the bearing conditions for these trusses, and whether
or not the removal of the below interior walls is structurally adequate.

DESCRIPTION
The residence is a two-story, split-level, wood-framed home with an attached slab-on-grade garage.
The structure is lookout at the front and walkout at the rear.
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS
1. A site visit was conducted by Trevor Axner of Ulteig on February 22, 2005 to review the
existing conditions. The following are comments made in regard to the observed
conditions:
a. The vaulted trusses are pre-engineered metal-plated trusses spanning full from the
front exterior walls to the rear. See the photograph on page three of this report for
more information.
b. The interior vault on one half of the trusses is created with non-structural framing
connected to the bottom chord of the wood-trusses. Ceiling framing below the truss'
bottom chord may be removed.
c. None of the interior walls contain framing or blocking that extends up to the roof
sheathing.
PROFESSIONAL OPINION
2. It is my professional engineering opinion that the pre-engineered trusses do not require the
support of the interior upper level framewalls, and that the removal/relocation of these
walls is structurally sound and adequate and meets the requirements of the Code.
GENERAL
3. The information, observations, and opinions stated in this report are based on an inspection
made by Trevor Axner. The inspection consisted of a visual walk-through observing
exposed elements and those accessible without the removal of finished materials.
4. The observations and opinions expressed in this report were based on our professional
engineering judgment and professional practice, as well as the visual inspection.

5. All work shall be done in accordance with this document, standard industry practices, and
the requirements of the Code.
6. No other engineering was performed or requested for this project.
