Tonight, Olamide Santos-Anughora, a 4th grader at La Ola del Lago Elementary School will be presented as Mayor for the Day. Below is the essay submission. If you were mayor for a day, what would you do to help make Prior Lake even better? “The mayor has an important job of listening to people. If I were mayor for a day, I want to listen to people. When something is wrong, the mayor gives instructions to people, then those people tell others the instructions until everyone knows what to do. If I was mayor of the city, I’d do anything to help everyone. I have lots of ideas to help the city. My first idea for the library is for more language books and reading classes. Then grownups and kids can speak different languages to different people. I also want to put more domes over parks for people to play in the winter and add more accessible swings for people in wheelchairs, so they don't feel left out. My next idea for the police is more training days and hiring more people to help. My idea to help the city’s fireman is to give the fireman better gear {for protection}. I’d also make them hats that spray water around them. And last but not least, I'd give them clothes, gloves, and masks that are fireproof. If I were mayor for a day, I also want to give the police officers and firefighters lots of bags full of food, water, tents, blankets and pillows, jackets, and clothes for homeless people. I like living in Prior Lake and I want to make sure it's safe for everyone who lives here. If I were mayor of Prior Lake for a day, I would make it better by showing people to be kind to others with PL NICE sessions (People Learning Nice Interactions for Companions Everywhere) for residents of Prior Lake. There would be different sessions teaching people how to be nicer to each other, and another for people who are lonely and want to make new friends.”
