City of Prior Lake | 4646 Dakota Street SE | Prior Lake MN 55372
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
ITEM: 5I
MEETING DATE: April 17, 2023
PREPARED BY: Dan Olson, Commander
PRESENTED BY: Dan Olson
AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Approving the Purchase of Emergency Siren
Replacements
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Pass a resolution to approve the purchase of two emergency warning siren assemblies that were
budgeted for replacement in 2023.
BACKGROUND:
The City maintains a network of fifteen warning sirens. Starting in 2020, the city began replacing
two sirens a year. Over the past several years we have replaced seven of the fifteen sirens. The
current plan is to replace two per year until the remaining sirens have been replaced. The
expected completion date is year-end, 2027. This will bring all warning sirens up to date with the
current model, which is critical to maintaining their functionality.
The expected life expectancy of sirens is approximately thirty years. After 2027 this will become
a routine maintenance issue rather than an ongoing replacement schedule.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This is a budgeted expenditure and is included in the Revolving Equipment Fund F410-42100.00-
55570.00.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Motion and second, as part of the consent agenda, to approve a resolution continuing
with the budgeted replacement schedule of our emergency warning sirens.
2. Motion and second requesting staff provide alternative options for the maintenance and
replacement of the emergency warning sirens.
