BACKGROUND: The Prior Lake Public Works Department is a team of 39 people dedicated to maintaining a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for all residents, businesses and visitors. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life through responsive, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of services consistent with community values. In recognition of the commitment to maintain safe and effective infrastructure for a growing community, the City Council is asked to join in the designation of May 21-27 as Public Works Week in Prior Lake. The national theme of this observance is Connecting the World Through Public Works, which highlights the way public works professionals connect us through infrastructure and inspire us through their service to the community. Since 1960, The American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week. Across the nation, APWA members use this week to energize and educate the public on the important contributions of public works in their daily lives; planning, building, managing, and operating the infrastructure of our local communities. In celebration of National Public Works Week, the public works team will be hosting the second annual “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck” open house on Tuesday, May 23 from 4pm to 7pm at the Maintenance Center (17073 Adelmann St SE). Attendees will be able explore the wide range of trucks and equipment that are used throughout the community. There will be kid-friendly activities including a truck-themed obstacle course, the “Weenie Wagon” food truck, and the opportunity to help paint a snowplow blade. The results of our “Name the Snowplow” contest will also be revealed at this event, which is free to the public. As we approach National Public Works Week, we would like to commend the following individuals for their tireless effort, contribution, and service to the public: Alex Breeggemann Brad Doerr Steve Korbel Nate Briese Jesse Ellanson Scott Krenik Andy Brotzler Bruce Friedges Steve Kvam Bob Buhler Steve Hart Mitch Mayer Mike Buesgens Tom Hein Dan Meger Jeremy Coy Lee Karow Bob Mesenbrink Kelsey Coy Kevin Kleist Dave Monnens City of Prior Lake | 4646 Dakota Street SE | Prior Lake MN 55372 Item 6B Page | 2 Nick Monserud Jill Stilwell Dan Wolf Philip Ryan Murray Theis Lesley Young Chad Shimota Jake Theisen Cody Yungbauer Greg Skluzacek Jake Wagner Nick Zurbey Jake Spinler Christine Watson Chris Zweber Andy Stephes Eric Whitmer FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
