There were concerns voiced at the community meeting regarding potential tax dollar impact. There were also questions if there are alternative funding streams that could be utilized such as grants. DAMASCUS WAY UPDATE: Kevin and Craig provided an update to the group. The house is fully occupied with a great group of men. They have created community in the home. They are assisting each other with transportation, sharing food/meals and attending groups together. Kevin and Craig shared one of the men’s progresses. One of the men started at the house with a plan to move out of state. He has since decided to remain in MN and is now working 2 jobs. He has reestablished contact with his young child. He has been attending the Destiny Dads group and assisting others in the home. Shakopee PD was able to help another resident through a fund they have to help community members in need. They were able to purchase a e-bike for the resident for him to use to get back and forth from his job. There were a couple of reports to the city/county regarding the house. One involved a report of debris by the fence behind the house. Craig and Kevin walked the fence line but were not able to locate anything. Later, they discovered that the debris which was a blue tarp was actually on the other side of the fence. A county crew was able to locate and remove it. The other report was regarding the exterior lights on the back of the house. Although not a code issue, Damascus staff agreed to shut them off. Damascus staff is grateful for the relationships they have with the Employment and Training staff at the county as well as the support from Lisa Freese and her staff. They are excited to see the landscaping when everything comes back this spring/summer. Kevin and Craig advised that they would like to host a BBQ at the Prior Lake house this summer/fall for community outreach. They have held similar events at the Shakopee House as well as other locations in the past that have been very successful. Commander Olson reported that there have been no police calls/reports to the house.
