HomeMy WebLinkAbout05(H) - Resolution Authorizing the Ordering of Fire Chief 3 (Unit 9202) Report ITEM: 5I CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: August 12, 2025 PREPARED BY: Christine Watson, Public Works Supervisor-Administration Rick Steinhaus, Fire Chief Chad Shimota, Mechanic PRESENTED BY: Nick Monserud, Public Works Director/City Engineer AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Authorizing the Ordering of Fire Chief 3 (Unit 9202) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt a resolution authorizing the ordering of Fire Chief 3 (9202). BACKGROUND: The 2026 Equipment CIP includes $70,000 for the replacement of Fire Chief 3 (9202). The $70,000 estimate includes roughly $55,000 for the vehicle, plus $15,000 for setup (strobes, radio, emergency equipment, etc.). All vehicles are purchased from State Contract vendors to ensure best value pricing. The existing Chief 3 unit is a 2018 Ford Explorer with 49,700 miles. The recommended replacement unit is a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe that has a larger, more efficient workspace as an incident command vehicle, and more storage space for equipment that is used and transported by the Fire Marshal. The other two Chief units are also Tahoes. The existing 2018 Explorer will be kept in the Fire Department fleet as a “spare” rescue vehicle that will be used primarily for large scale calls when additional vehicles are needed. This “spare” unit will not be scheduled in the CIP for replacement, but will periodically be replaced with other old command vehicles as they are replaced with new units in the future (similar to what the Police Department does with their transport unit). Staff recommend council authorization to order the Tahoe at this time to maximize the likelihood of getting this unit into service in 2026. Delaying the order could significantly impact the lead time for delivery of this unit. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The 2026 Equipment CIP includes $70,000 for the replacement of Fire Chief 3 (9202). Orders placed in 2025 are not paid until the unit is received in 2026. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to adopt a resolution authorizing the ordering of Fire Chief 3 (9202). 2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for further discussion. ATTACHMENTS: 1.
