AGENDA ITEM: Recognition of the Retirement of Finance Director Cathy Erickson
It is with deep appreciation and sincere congratulations that we recognize Cathy Erickson,
Finance Director for the City of Prior Lake, on the occasion of her retirement.
Cathy began her tenure with the City in 2013 when she was hired as the Accounting Manager. In
2017, she was promoted to the role of Finance Director, where she has since provided
outstanding leadership, professionalism, and vision to the Finance Department. Over the past 12
years, Cathy has played an integral role in strengthening the City's financial foundation and
fostering a culture of excellence within her department.
Under Cathy's leadership, the City has achieved numerous significant accomplishments,
including:
•Implementation of the BS&A financial software system, enhancing efficiency and
transparency
•Transition to a four-tier utility billing structure, improving equity and sustainability
•Successful completion of a citywide meter upgrade project
•Establishment of franchise fees to provide dedicated funding for the pavement
management program
•Receipt of the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Award
for five consecutive years (2021-2025)
•Achievement and maintenance of a AAA bond rating, a testament to the City's strong fiscal
health
Beyond these tangible achievements, Cathy has been a mentor, a steady guide, and a team
builder. She has recruited, developed, and led a Finance Department comprised entirely of
individuals who joined the City under her direction-an enduring legacy of her commitment to staff
development and organizational growth.
The City of Prior Lake owes Cathy Erickson a profound debt of gratitude. Her impact on the City's
financial stability and her unwavering dedication to public service will be felt for many years to
come. While we will miss her leadership and presence, we celebrate this well-earned milestone
and extend our warmest wishes as she embarks on her next chapter in retirement.
Congratulations, Cathy, and thank you for everything.
