Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714 MEETING DATE: AGENDA #: PREPARED BY: AGENDA ITEM: DISCUSSION: H:\ELECTION\Agendajudge apl.doc CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT AUGUST 7,2006 5E Ralph Teschner, Finance Director CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPOINTMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 12,2006 PRIMARY AND NOVEMBER 7, GENERAL ELECTIONS Introduction A primary and general election are scheduled for this Fall on Tuesday, September 12 and Tuesday, November 7,2006 respectively for the purpose of electing candidates for the following offices: FEDERAL United States Senate United States Representative STATE State Senator State Representative Governor Attorney General Secretary of State State Auditor JUDICIAL Supreme, Appeals & District Court Judges COUNTY Commissioner Attorney Sheriff Soil & Water Supervisors (2) BALLOT QUESTION On the September 1 ih primary election the referendum question for Fire Station #2 and an aerial platform fire truck will also be before the voters. As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the Election Day activities. For information purposes all precincts with the exception of Precinct #7 are located within Prior lake School District 719. For the most part the portion lying north of CSAH 42 of Precinct #7 lies within Shakopee School District #720 and these voters receive ballots relating only to ISD #720 in addition to city council elections. ALTERNATIVES: Total registered voter count is presently 12,474. Within the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The attached election judge list indicates two election judge chairs for each precinct by the @ symbol. The judges will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the poll openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $8.00 per hour as approved within this year's operating budget. The following alternatives are available to the City Council: RECOMMENDED MOTION: 1. Approve the election judge appointments for the 2006 Primary and General elections. 2. Table this item for a specific reason. Motion to approve as part of the consent agenda is in order recommend approval of the attached list of election judges by precinct.
