AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Approving the Appointment of Election Judges for the
2026 Election Cycle
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve a Resolution Appointing Election Judges for the 2026 Election Cycle.
BACKGROUND:
Minnesota Election Law 204B.21 requires that the governing body of the municipality appoint
election judges to administer the polling places. Each of Prior Lake's 9 polling locations will be
adequately staffed with Election Judges and Head Judges. Staff requests the authority to replace
or substitute judges as necessary before Election Day.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Election expenses for the judges are included in the adopted 2026 budget. Election Judge and
Student Election Judge hourly pay is $13.00 per hour. Head Election Judge pay is $16.00 per
hour.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Motion and second, as part of the consent agenda, to approve a resolution appointing
Election Judges for the 2026 Election Cycle.
2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for additional
discussion.

A RESOLUTION APPOINTING ELECTION JUDGES FOR
THE 2026 ELECTION CYCLE

WHEREAS, Minnesota Election Law 204B.21 requires that persons serving as election judges be
appointed by the City Councill.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA
the following election judges are on file in the office of the City Clerk and should be appointed as the 2026
Election Judges; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED City of Prior Lake City Council also appoints other individuals and all members
appointed to the Scott County Absentee Ballot Board as authorized under Minnesota Statute 204B.21, sub
2 under the direction of the Scott County Election Manager to serve as members of the City of Prior Lake
Absentee Ballot Board; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, based upon inability of a judge(s) to serve on election day or upon need
for additional assistance, the City Clerk shall be authorized to appoint/hire required number of persons. Only
those persons duly qualified and duly trained to serve as an election judge may be selected to serve in this
capacity.
