AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Authorizing the Ordering of 2027 Vehicles and
Equipment
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt a resolution authorizing the ordering of 2027 vehicles and equipment.
BACKGROUND:
The following table summarizes the proposed equipment expenditures included in the 2027
Equipment CIP. Each unit is planned to be replaced with a similar unit. Updated quotes have
been obtained from the vendors and the expected aggregate cost of all equipment is below the
approved CIP amount of $2,874,040 for the year.

The purchase of large plow trucks is spread over two years (cab/chassis the first year, outfitting
the second year). The lead time for these larger trucks is often 2+ years from the time it’s ordered
to the time it’s placed in service. We anticipate all units will reach their expected replacement
interval of 12 years by the time the new trucks are in service.

The ordering of plow truck 8469 was previously approved by Council at the August 25, 2026
Council meeting, but is included here to illustrate the total impact of the 2027 Equipment CIP.

This is the remaining amount due on the ladder truck. The cab/chassis was ordered in 2024
with a down payment of $400,000.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The 2027 Equipment CIP includes $2,874,040 for the purchase of the equipment noted in the
table above. The actual cost for these purchases is expected to be $2,818,632 based on recent
vendor quotes. Although orders will be placed in 2026, payment is not required until the equipment
is delivered in 2027. All city equipment is purchased from the state contract or other cooperative
purchasing agencies to ensure best value pricing.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to adopt a resolution authorizing the
ordering of 2027 vehicles and equipment.
2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for further discussion.

WHEREAS, the aggregate cost for these purchases is expected to be under budget based on
recent vendor quotes; and
WHEREAS, all proposed purchases will be from State Contract and other cooperative purchasing
vendors to ensure the best value pricing.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA as follows:
1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein.
2. The Mayor and City Manager hereby authorize staff to order the replacement equipment.
