AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Receiving Quotes and Awarding a Contract for
Generator Replacement at the Police Station
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt a resolution receiving quotes and awarding a contract for the generator replacement at the
Police Station.
BACKGROUND:
The existing emergency generator serving the Police Station was purchased used and has
accumulated a high number of operating hours. As a result, the unit has become increasingly
unreliable and has required more frequent maintenance to remain operational.
Given its age, usage history, and the critical role of backup power in ensuring uninterrupted public
safety operations, continuing to rely on the current generator poses a growing risk. Replacing the
aging generator with a new, properly-sized and dependable unit will provide greater reliability
during power outages, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure the Police Department can
maintain essential services without interruption.
Staff solicited the following three quotes to replace the emergency generator at the Police Station:
Company Quote
Cal-Tex Electric Inc. $115,300
Taylor Electric Company $117,786
Master Electric $118,435
Staff recommend Council award a contract to Cal-Tex Electric Inc. in the total amount of $115,300
for generator replacement at the Police Station.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The 2026 Equipment CIP includes $170,000 for this capital improvement in fund 410-42100.00-
55570.00.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to adopt a resolution receiving quotes
and awarding a contract for the generator replacement at the Police Station.
2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for further discussion.

A RESOLUTION RECEIVING QUOTES AND AWARDING A CONTACT FOR THE GENERATOR
REPLACEMENT AT THE POLICE STATION
Motion By: Second By:
WHEREAS, the existing emergency generator serving the Police Station was purchased used
and has accumulated a high number of operating hours, resulting in reduced
reliability and high maintenance costs; and
WHEREAS, replacing the aging generator with a new, properly-sized, and dependable unit will
provide greater reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure the Police
Department can continue delivering essential services without interruption; and
WHEREAS, staff solicited the following three quotes to replace the emergency generator at the
Police Station:

Cal-Tex Electric Inc. $115,300
Taylor Electric Company $117,786
Master Electric $118,435
and
WHEREAS, staff recommend Council award a contract to Cal-Tex Electric Inc. in the total
amount of $115,300 for this project; and
WHEREAS,
the 2026 Equipment CIP includes $170,000 for this capital improvement in
fund 410-42100.00-55570.00.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA as follows:
1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein.
2. The City Council hereby authorizes the execution of a contract with Cal-Tex Electric Inc. in the
amount of $115,300 for the generator replacement at the Police Station.
3. Funding for this project shall come from the 2026 Equipment CIP fund 410-42100.00-55570.00.
