Historv The City of Prior lake maintains street lights along CR 21 from Fish Point Road to CR 82. The CR 82 project involves the expansion of the roadway corridor along CR 21 for turn lanes and pedestrian improvements. Eight (8) of the City's Street lights were removed as part of this project. These lights are wood and are more than 20 years old. Because the poles are wood they are degraded and can not be reused. As part of the 2004 Downtown Street Reconstruction the City replaced streets lights on CR 21 and established a new lighting specification for this area. Current Circumstances City Staff removed eight (8) street lights to facilitate reconstruction of CR 21. These lights need to be replaced to provide safety lighting for pedestrians and City street intersections. The lights will be the standard downtown style with 17 foot poles. The existing light poles are wood and have degraded substantially. These poles can not be re-used and therefore must be replaced. The existing electrical was wire was direct buried which has resulted in shorting issues. The CR 82 project calls for replacement of eight (8) street lights and addition of one light for a total of nine (9) lights. Installation of the lighting and required infrastructure is estimated to be approximately $75,000.00. Funding for the street lights will come from the Street Over-size Fund. The new lights are required due to expansion of the roadway. This expansion is driven by increased traffic volumes due to new development.
