You are applying for a new Cosmetology Salon License from the State of Minnesota Department of Commerce to operate a beauty salon. The application requires that the salon meet the minimum standards of the Minnesota Sate Building Code. A site inspection was conducted on Tuesday, January 15, 2002. Our review was based on the Minnesota State Building Code (MSBC) which adopted with amendments the 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC). The following observations were noticed: 17'0 1. The building is a two story wood structure with a pitched wood roof. The building faces west toward Main Ave. There are adjacent buildings on the South and North faces of the building. 2. Verify outside ventilation air provides 25 CFM per occupant in salon and 60 CFM .. in nail manicure area. A Mechanical Engineer will be required to establish the ventilation air. They are not pitched and are not supported. There does not appear that a heating permit was issued for the furnace installation. 4. Furnace and air-to-air exchanger exhausts and intakes terminate on South exterior walls where openings are not pennitted. UBC Table 5-A 5. The plumbing for the station sinks are not sized, vented, or pitched correctly. A ~ master plumber is required to obtain a plumbing permit to correct the plumbing. I ~ Verify that the electrical system meets the National Electrical Code. A Master : ~N:(j/, . Electrician is required to obtain an electrical inspection from the local Electrical 'l,r inspector. 7. Provide access to observe the second story. The Cosmetology Salon License application will be signed when the above items have been addressed, corrected and approved.
