HomeMy WebLinkAbout7A - Prior Lake Optimist Club Donation MEETING DATE: AGENDA #: PREPARED BY: AGENDA ITEM: PRESENTATION: REVIEWED BY: CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT OCTOBER 19, 1998 7A BRET WOODSON, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER PRESENTATION - DONATION FROM PRIOR LAKE OPTIMIST CLUB - JERRY YOUNG The Prior Lake Optimist Club was chartered in Prior Lake in 1978. The club just recently celebrated 20 years of Optimism in Prior Lake at their annual awards and installation banquet. The mission of the Optimist Club is "Friends ofY outh". Since the Club's initiation, the Optimists have been instrumental in assisting Prior Lake Youth through scholarships and other endeavors. Past donations specific to the City of Prior Lake have included the following: $1,000 annually to the Parks and Recreation Department for youth program scholarships and $1,000 annually to the Fire Department for the annual Safety Camp. This year, in addition to the above donations, the Optimist Club has elected to make another significant contribution to the City of Prior Lake to fund youth programs and various Parks and Recreation projects. This donation will be deposited in the Capital Park Fund and be used to fund the programs / projects mutually agreed upon by Parks and Recreation Director Hokeness and the Prior Lake Optimist Club. A list of ideas is attached to this report. Purchase new Playground Equipment $20,000 · Lakefront Park Youth Activity Center (Trying to raise $100,000 to match with $200,000 of existing funds) $25,000 · Lakefront Park Outdoor Performing Arts Theater (Lighting, furnishings, and sound system) $25,000 .
