CONSIDER APPROVAL OF 1999 CIGARETTE LICENSE
RENEWALS
Current Circumstances
Cigarette license renewal applications are due annually in December.
Thirteen establishments are applying for 1999 cigarette licenses. They
are the same thirteen who requested renewals in 1998. The individual
applicants are listed on the attached memorandum. The annual fee for
cigarette licenses, as stated in the current fee schedule, is $250.00.
The Issues
All applicants have provided complete applications and fees. The city
has on file a copy of the educational materials required by City
Ordinance 96-16 for each applicant. The Prior Lake Police
Department has reported no problems in 1998 with any of the
applicants concerning their cigarette licenses. Express Gas &
Groceries, Dakota Liquors and The Wilds Golf Club were fined
$150.00 each in 1997 for selling cigarettes to minors. There have been
no incidents since then.
The City Council has the following alternatives:
1. Adopt a motion as part of the consent agenda approving the
cigarette licenses for 1999.
2. Deny one or more of the license requests.
Staff recommends Council approve the 1999 cigarette license renewals
as part of the consent agenda.
