HomeMy WebLinkAbout5G - Purchase of Two Utility Maint. Vehicles AGENDA # PREPARED BY: SUBJECT: DATE: INTRODUCTION: DISCUSSION: STAFF AGENDA REPORT 5G AL FRIEDGES, PARKS SUPERVISOR CONSIDER APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION 98-XX AWARDING BID FOR PURCHASE OF: TWO UTILITY MAINTENANCE VEHICLES WITH ATTACHMENTS. APRIL 20, 1998 The purpose of this agenda is to authorize staff to purchase: One utility maintenance vehicle with herbicide sprayer and ball field drag and One utility maintenance vehicle with athletic field line striper. At the May 19, 1997 City Council meeting the Council adopted an Equipment Replacement Fund and Matrix. Identified in the matrix is $33,574.00 for acquisition of this equipment in 1998. At the March 16, 1998 City Council meeting, the Council authorized staff to prepare specifications and solicit bids for this equipment. The Utility Maintenance Vehicle with the Herbicide Sprayer and Ballfield Drag Attachment is designed for dragging aglime infields on ballfields and applying chemicals for turf management and weed control. Currently Parks Maintenance Crews are applying herbicides to highly sensitive areas adjacent to ponds, lakes, and private property with a homemade sprayer that is difficult to calibrate and control application areas. This new sprayer can be calibrated for precise herbicide distribution and contact. This piece of equipment will also be utilized to maintain ball fields when the spray unit is removed. With it's hydraulic operated dump box and ball field drag, this Utility Maintenance Vehicle will be utilized daily for dragging fields, and hauling aglime, black dirt, and garbage, etc. The Utility Maintenance Vehicle with the Field Line Striper is designed for applying liquid line marking paint on football, soccer, baseball, and softball fields. Parks Maintenance crews are currently lining fields with a homemade line marker mounted on a Toro lawn mower. As the number of athletic fields increase, the purchase of this piece of equipment will allow us to support daily applications during baseball, softball, soccer, and football seasons. 16200-~~ek Ave. S.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota155372-1714 / Ph. We will save $300-400 per year on herbicides using modern equipment and proper calibrations. . Both of the vehicles are street legal and do not need to be transported on a trailer from site to site. We do not need to buy trailers or tie up a pickup truck to transport these vehicles. (Trailers cost approximately $1,700.00). . With the larger capacity tank (55 gallons vs. 7 gallons) on the new vehicle we can stripe six times more fields and save approximately two hours per day mixing paint. . In the next 2 years we will add 17 baseball, softball, soccer and football fields. . 100-120 Acres of park will be added to the existing system over the next 3 years. These acres require herbicide/fertilizer application. FISCAL IMP ACT: There is $33,574.00 identified for the purchase of this equipment in the Parks and Recreation Department Equipment Matrix which is identified . in the Capital Improvement Program. The C.I.P. and matrix were approved by the City Council at the May 19, 1997 meeting. The funding source is identified as the Revolving Equipment Fund. There is no trade- in vehicle included with this purchase.
