CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
JUNE 15, 1998 ~
~BOYLES, CITY MANAGE~
RECEIVE DONATION FROM PRIOR LAKE VOLUNTEER
.nKE RELIEF ASSOCIATION OF 1937 ANTIQUE FIRE
TRUCK (PRIOR LAKE'S FIRST FIRE VEHICLE).
Historv
The first fire vehicle owned by the Prior Lake Volunteer Fire
Department was a 1937 Pumper. This vehicle has been owned by a
Fire museum in Burnsville and the Apple Valley Fire Department
since it left the City of Prior Lake.
Current Circumstances
Given the sentimental and historic value of the 1937 pumper, the Prior
Lake Volunteer Relief Association, using their own funds, acquired the
pumper. The acquisition is intended to be used in parades and public
relations events. In order to secure insurance for the vehicle under the
City's insurance policy, it is necessary for the City to accept ownership
of the fire vehicle.
Issues
The annual estimated cost of insurance for the 1937 antique pumper is
approximately $100. Since the pumper will be stored at Fire Station
No. 1 and will have very limited usage, the likelihood of damage to the
vehicle is substantially diminished.
RECOMMENDATION:Accept the donation of the 1937 antique fire pumper from the Prior
Lake Volunteer Firefighter Relief Association with the understanding
that if the City disposes of this equipment that the proceeds would be
property of the relief association.
