The purpose Agenda item is to accept or reject received and enter into a contract construction of Project #89-01. On June 18, 1990, Resolution 90-29 was adopted authorizing a bid opening on July 20, 1990. A total of twenty-one sets of plans were sent out to contractors and suppliers. on of the for July this bids the At the bid opening, there were four bids submitted with Valley Paving, Inc. having submitted the low bid of $709,851.27. The engineer on this project is Toltz, King, Duvall, Anderson, & Associates, Inc. (TKDA) and their estimate was $678,444.85. The low bid received is approximately 5% higher than the engineer's estimate. Awarding the bid for Project #89-01 must be contingent upon Minnesota Department of Transportation approval of Cooperative Agreements No. 67239 and No. 67360. No construction work can be done without approved agreements from the state. Cooperative Agreement approval by the City is included in the August 6, 1990 agenda packet - 3 (d) . If approved by the City, the Agreements are sent to the appro~riate MnDOT offices for approval. Processing t1me from MnDOT will take two to three weeks upon receipt of signed Agreements from the City. The bids received were favorable and the low bid was slightly higher than the current 4629 Dakota St. S.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372 / Ph. (612) 447-4230 / Fax (612) 447.4245 ALTERNATIVES: engineer's estimate. Valley Pavin9, Inc. of Shakopee, Minnesota has been 1ncorporated since 1979 and is a responsible bidder. Work done J?reviouslr by Valley Paving, Inc. for the C1ty of Pr10r Lake has been acceptable. The following is a list of alternatives: 1. Approve Resolution 90-36 awardin9 the contract for Project #89-01 cont1ngent upon the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Cooperative Agreements No. 67239 and No. 67360. 2. Do not approve Resolution 90-36 specific reasons. 3. Table this item for specific reasons. for RECOMMENDATION: Recommendation is to accept the bid of Valley Paving, Inc. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The project will be paid through three sources: State Funds, MSA Funds, and the Construction Fund. MnDOT will not pay for any design costs on the Trunk Highway portion. The engineering fees for the Trunk Highway have been paid from the Construction Fund. ACTION REQUIRED: Make a motion, as J?art of the Consent Agenda, to approve Resolut1on 90-36. The Ma~or and City Manager are hereby authorized to enter 1nto the attached contract with Valley Paving, Inc. of Shakopee, Minnesota in the name of the City of Prior Lake for the improvement of the Fish Point Road/T.H. l3 intersection improvements contingent upon Minnesota Department of Transportation approval of Cooperative Agreements No. 67239 and No. 67360; by the installation of bituminous surfacing, concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, sidewalk, and appurtenant work, 4629 Dakota St. S.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372 / Ph.
