HomeMy WebLinkAbout3E - Election Judge Appointments CONSENT AGENDA: REQUESTED BY : SUBJECT MATTER: DATE: Introduction: DISCUSSION: HERITAGE 1891 COMMUNITY 1991 18JsrJA ~ 2Q9;f 3 (e) RALPH TESCHNER, FINANCE DIRECTOR CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPONTMENTS AUGUST 20, 1990 The upcoming election in 1990 will involve both a prima~ and general election for the following offl.ces: FEDERAL One U.S. Senator One U.S. Representative STATE One State Senator (District 36) One State Representative (District 36-A) Governor Secretary of State State Auditor State Treasurer Attorney General COUNTY One County Commissioner (4th District) SCHOOL (general election only) Three School Board Members The City is responsible for the Primary while the General Election will be a ~oint effort between the City and the School Dl.strict, with City staff coordinating the process. The City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the election day activities. The City is divided into three precincts with the polling places located respectively at City Hall, Five hawks Elementary School, and Assembly of God Church. Each precinct will be staffed with 10 election judges. Within the precincts there is equal party balance between Democratic and Republican representation as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 P.M. The judges will report appropriate precinct location one to the polls opening for set-up A.M. to 8:00 to their hour prior preparation. 4629 Dakota S1. (612) 447-4230 / Fax (612) 447-4245 RECOMMENDATION: ACTION REQUIRED: Also, all judges will be attending training sessions to be conducted by the Scott County Auditors' office. The judges shall be paid $5.00 per hour. The School district will reimburse the City for 50% of all expenses incurred during the General election. Attached is a list of election judges indicated by precinct. Staff has contacted the judges and each has expressed interest in serving this year's elections. Staff would recommend, as part of the consent agenda, approval of those judges submitted. Motion to approve as part of the consent agenda is in order.
