HomeMy WebLinkAbout5J - Well #9 Pump AGENDA ITEM: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING QUOTES AND AUTHORIZING PURCHASE AND INSTAllATION OF THE WEll #9 PUMP AND APPURTENANT ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT DISCUSSION: Introduction The purpose of this agenda is for Council to authorize the purchase and installation of the Well #9 pump and appurtenant electrical equipment. Historv On May 7,2007, City Council authorized staff to solicit quotes for Well #9 pump and installation. Current Circumstances In addition to the pump installation, appurtenant electrical services and connections are necessary to complete the installation of pumps #8 and #9. The cost for the appurtenant equipment is $24,000 with the installation being provided by Cedar Lake Electric, the electrical contractor for Wells #8 and #9. Staff obtained two quotes for Well #9 pump and installation which are listed below: Traut Wells E.H. Renner and Sons Waite Park, MN Elk River, MN $32,500 $37,513.60 Staff recommends the low bidder Traut Wells who has previously completed the drilling on Well #9. In addition to the pump, appurtenant equipment for the controls and electrical connections to the well is required in the amount of $24,000. This equipment will be purchased in accordance with City Purchasing Policy guidelines. Conclusion Well #9 is in the Franconia Ironton Galesville (FIG) formation. The pump design is for 500 gallons per minute. Cost provided by both well companies is in-line with the engineer's estimate. Installation of this pump will complete the City's Well #8 and #9 project. ISSUES: Authorization to move forward with the purchase of the pump and installation for Well #9 should bring this well into production by the middle of June, prior to the City's historical peak pumping periods of July and August. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for Wells #8 and #9 is solely provided by development fees from the City's Trunk Water Acreage Charge. The need for these wells is the result of new development and therefore funding is 100% development derived.
