HomeMy WebLinkAbout4 - Highway 13 Task Force AGENDA NUMBER: PREPARED BY: SUBJECT: DATE: INTRODUCTION: BACKGROUND: DISCUSSION: HER1TAGE 1891 COMMUNITY 1991 WJ.5fJK 20J1 4 KAY SCHMUDLACH, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER PRESENT HIGHWAY 13 TASK FORCE SAFETY POSTER CONTEST AWARD WINNERS DECEMBER 3, 1990 In July of 1987 the city of Prior Lake authorized the formation of a Highway 13 Task Force to study safety issues concerning Highway 13. The Highway 13 Task Force has had many successes in the last 2 1/2 years and continues to work toward the improvement of Highway 13. Chairperson Marge Gleason will be presenting an update for the city council on Highway 13 issues. In addition, the winners of the Highway 13 Safety poster Contest have been selected and the Task Force would appreciate the City Council's assistance in acknowledging the youth. Since its inception, the Highway 13 Task Force has become an aggressive voice for Highway 13 improvements. The Task Force has been asked to participate in many regional and state transportation organlzations, and is frequently referenced as an example of a community rallying behind an important cause. The great part1cipation between the City and the Task Force has not only received praise from our legislators and State MNDOT officials, but has provided the necessary teamwork for the successes Ms. Gleason will be addressing. The Highway 13 Task Force Steering committee contains a membership of six, who meet monthly to work on their 1990 Work Program. One of the 1990 activities is the Safety poster contest. In 1990, grades K-6 of all Prior Lake public and private schools participated. Four hundred and ten individuals submitted 4629 Dakota 51. 5.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372 / Ph. (612) 447-4230 I Fax (612) 447-4245 RECOMMENDATION: ACTION REQUIRED: posters. The posters were judged and the following winners chosen. K-2 Grade 1st Place - Kristie Engel - st. Michael's 2nd Place - Amy stier - st. Paul's Lutheran 3rd Place - Laura speiker - st. Michael's 3-4 Grade 1st Place - Michael Nolting - Five Hawks 2nd Place - Laura Loftus - st. Michael's 3rd Place - Tanya Borchardt - Five Hawks 5-6 Grade 1st Place - Eric Palm - Grainwood 2nd Place - John Kay - Grainwood 3rd Place - Shauna Muehlhauser - Grainwood The children and their parents have been contacted and invited to the December 3, 1990 City Council meeting to receive certificates of appreciation from the City Council. The Prior Lake Optimist Club on November ~8, 1990 hosted a luncheon for the 1st ~r1ze winners and awarded each a $10.00 cash pr1ze. The Highway 13 Task Force recommends the city council award each winner a certificate of appreciation. No formal action is required.
