The Values were prepared through resident input. The Committee is seeking School Board and City Council approval of the Values before next Fall. Attached for Council information are two sets of Community Values. The first set are those values proposed by the Violence Prevention Committee. I have two concerns about the proposed Values. First they tend to raise platforms or issues through direct statement or implication which are inappropriate for the City to take a position on. Second, because of their length they may be difficult to remember. Consequently, I have redrafted the Community Values for Council consideration. The Council has the following alternatives: 1. Take no action 2. Adopt the original Values submitted with or without modification. 3. Adopt the revised Values with or without modffication. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the City Council adopt the Value Statements as I have revised them. Once the City and School District have adopted the Community Values, a final draft will be reconciled in preparation for the Council's next action step. A responsible individual will exhibit self-control, dependability and commitment by practicing good citizenship, patriotism, community service through a strong work ethic.
