HomeMy WebLinkAbout5B - Prj. 93-12 & Prj. 93-14 AGENDA NUMBER: PREPARED BY: SUBJECT: DATE: INTRODUCTION: BACKGROUND: DISCUSSION: 5B BRUCE LONEY, ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER CONSIDER APPROVAL OF LIME ROAD & CENTER ROAD (PROJECT 93-12) AND THE POND ATHLETIC COMPLEX ROADS AND PARKING LOTS PAVING (PROJECT 93-14) PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS JUNE 7, 1993 The purpose of this item is to consider the approval of the plans and specifications for Project #93-12, Lime Road and Center Road street improvement and Project #93-14, the Pond Athletic Complex road and parking lot paving. If plans are approved by Council, then adoption of Resolution 93-41 is in order to authorize the Advertisement for Bids on the projects. On March 15, 1993, the Council adopted Resolution #93-13 ordering the preparation of plans and specifications for Project #93-12 for Lime Road and Center Road Street improvement project. On March 15, 1993, the Council adopted Resolution #93-16 orderin9 the pre~aration of plans on the Business Off1ce Park 1mprovements and several other projects including the Pond Athletic Complex road and parking lot paving. The City of Prior Lake's Engineering Department is preparing plans and specifications for the construction of the Lime Road and Center Road project and the Pond Athletic Complex project. Plans and specifications will be presented to the Council at the June 7, 1993 meeting. The Feasibility Project Cost Estimate Project #93-12 was $132,000.00 and Project #93-14 was $165,000.00. On the Pond Complex project, Staff has designed the parking lot improvements to meet the recently adopted Landscape Ordinance and has incorporated an internal trail system for handicap accessibility. These costs were not included in the February 16, 1993 Feasibility Study Cost Estimate. An acceptable bid opening for Project and 93-14 would be at 10:00 A.M. on 1993. The bid opening results presented to Council at the July Council Meeting. #93-12 July 6, will be 6, 1993 Approval of Resolution #93-41 would appropriate subject to Council direction. The alternatives are as follows: 1. Approve the Plans and Specifications and approve Resolution #93-41 ordering an Advertisement for Bid with a bid opening for July 6, 1993 at 10:00 A.M. 2. Table this item for a specific reason. 3. Deny the project at this time. be Project #93-12 will be paid for by Special Assessments against the benefitting properties on Lime Road and Center Road. Project #93-14 will be paid for by ad valorem tax levy. Make a motion to approve Resolution 93-41. RESOLUTION 93-41 RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND ORDERING ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS ON LIME ROAD AND CENTER ROAD STREET IMPROVEMENT (PROJECT 93-12) AND ON THE POND ATHLETIC COMPLEX ROAD AND PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENT (PROJECT 93-14) MOTIONED BY SECONDED BY WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution 93-13 and 93-16, which the City Council approved on March 15, 1993, the City Engineer has prepared plans and specifications for the improvement of Center Road from Northwood Road to Lime Road and Lime Road from Spring Lake Road to end terminus by the construction of storm sewer, aggregate base, concrete curb and gutter, bituminous surfacing and appurtenant work, and for the Roadway and Parking lot paving im~rovement in the Pond Athletic complex by the construct1on of grading, aggregate base, concrete curb and gutter, bituminous surfacing and a~purtenant work, and has presented such plans and specif1cations to the Council for approval. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA, that: 1. Such plans and specifications, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part of hereof, are hereby approved. 2. The City Manager shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official paper and in the Construction Bulletin an advertisement for bids upon the making of such improvement under such approved plans and specifications. The advertisement shall be published not less than 21 days prior to bid opening, shall specify the work to be done, shall state that bids will be opened, and that all bids will be received by the City until 10:00 A.M. on July 6, 1993, at which time they will be publicly opened in the Council Chambers of the City Hall by the City Engineer. No bids will be considered unless sealed and filed with the City Manager and accompanied by a cash deposit, cashier's check, bid bond, or certified check payable to the City of Prior Lake for 5 per cent of the amount of such bid. 4629 Dakota St. S.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372 / Ph.
