HomeMy WebLinkAbout8 - Kedrowski Lakefront Days Expenditure Request M E M 0 FRANK BOYLES, CITY MANAGER TOM KEDROWSKI LAKE FRONT DAYS REQUEST FOR EXPENDITURE JUNE 2, 1993 Lakefront Days is Prior Lake's Community Festival. Each year in August the City of Prior Lake and the Chamber of Commerce work cooperatively to host a Community Festival that will provide activities for all ages, youth through senior. The agenda of activities includes hi9hlights such as the parade, dog show, senior olympics, kiddle games, and etc. In 1993 as in 1992, the Chamber of Commerce would like approval to host Lakefront Days in front of City Hall. The date for Lakefront Days in 1993 will be August 7 (although there will be a pancake breakfast on August 8 to assist the Chamber in off setting some of their costs). The public support for havin9 Lakefront Dars in front of City Hall last rear was overwhelmlng. People 11ke to have a Community Festival ln the heart of the community. There is easy access, plenty of parking, and its just a real good focal point for City government and the downtown merchants. The only drawback was due to the lack of utility accessibility. The Chamber of Commerce had to rent several generators to support the activities. Unfortunately, the cost of the generators and the noise really have a detrimental effect on the overall Community Festival. As a Board member for the Chamber of Commerce, I would like to suggest that the City ~rovide financial sup~ort for this Community Festival by cOVerlng the cost of a utillty drop into the area. We have received a quote from Master Electric in the amount of $3,470. For this the City would get two dro~s at 200 amps that would provide enough ener9Y for the activitles of that day. This does seem like a substantlal amount of money yet it is a small investment when you're talking about assisting with a Community Festival. One additional note of su~port is that the Chamber's Lakefront Days is not the only actlvity that is now occurring on the front of City Hall. As you know the recent DARE Bike-a-thon is a great success and an on9oing program that the City should support. The additional electrlcity could be used for that activity along with some of the activities that we have tried in the past. I would ask that you provide this to the Council through the June 7 Council Agenda packet requesting their discussion under other business. I will be available to review the memo, and Kay Kuhlmann will be there to discuss in more detail the Lakefront Days activities. .," 4629 Dakota St. S.E., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372 / Ph.
