HomeMy WebLinkAbout5 - Volunteer Fire Dept. Referendum Proclamation
PROCLAMATION
the Prior Lake Volunteer Fire Department moved into the 4500 square foot
fire station adjacent to City Hall approximately twenty-seven years ago; and
since that time the community has grown from a population of a few
thousand to over twelve thousand and the fire department from a handful of
members to forty members with a corresponding increase in equipment; and
the City Council authorized that a referendum be conducted on June 22 to
consider whether general obligations bonds should be sold in the amount of
$2.1 million to construct a new main fire station adjacent to the proposed
bUSiness/office park; and
members of the Prior Lake Volunteer Fire Department assumed the primary
responsibility for publicizing the need for a new fire station by personally
visiting with over 3100 households. conducting information meetings with
neighborhood groups and associations. telephoning over 1000 persons to
encourage voting and by transporting people to the polling places; and
the referendum was adopted with almost 80% of the votes cast in favor of the
fire station proposal.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that I. Mayor Lee Andren. confirm the City
Counell's gratitude to its Volunteer Fire Department for the key role they played in
educating the public about the referendum and supporting the new fire station proposal.
