HomeMy WebLinkAbout4C - Election Judge Appointments INTRODUCTION: DISCUSSION: 4 (c) RALPH TESCHNER FINANCE DlREcroR CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECIlON JUDGE APPOINTMENTS OcroBER 4, 1993 The upcoming election on Tuesday, November 2, 1993 will consist of a general citywide election for the following offices: CITY Mayor Two Council seats SCHOOL BOARD Three Board members Also included on the election ballot will be a District 719 school board request to increase its general education revenue by $374.43 per pupil unit beginning in 1994. The General election will be a joint effort between the City and School District, with City Staff coordinating the process. The City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the election day activities. This will be the second year of the implementation of the new redistricting plan which increased the number of election precincts from three to five. This time around the public should be fairly familiar with the new alignment. Each precinct will be staffed with 6 election judges with the exception of Precinct #4 which will have 4 judges. Within the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the polls opening for set-up preparation. As in past years, the judges shall be paid $5.00 per hour. RECOMMENDATION: Attached is a list of election judges indicated by precinct. Staff has contacted the judges and each has expressed interest in serving in this year"s November election. Staff would recommend appointment of those judges submitted. ACTION REQUIRED: A motion to approve as part of the consent agenda is in order.
