HomeMy WebLinkAbout8 - Fire Hall Site Information A Eos ARCHITECTl'RE MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: David Unmacht 1 Zack Johnson 1\. DATE: July 15, 1991 Re: Prior Lake Fire Station Eos #91104 In response to your request of 7-12-91, we have evaluated several downtown locations for the proposed fire station. We looked at alternative locations on the two blocks bounded by County Road 21 on the south, Dakota Avenue on the north, Arcadia Avenue on the west, and Main Avenue on the east. There is one issue which we were not able to resolve on short notice. At the corner of County Road 21 and Erie Avenue there is a small building which may contain controls and piping associated to the gas utility. The possibility to relocate or build close to this structure is a question which must be answered prior to a final evaluation of this location. The two blocks in question are each approximately 2.5 acres in size. The fire station we are currently discussing will likely require a minimum of 1.5 acres just for the building, aprons, parking and drives. Once the lawn areas and setbacks are incorporated, you can see on the following graphic, that a large portion of the block is consumed. Some of the pros and cons of the six alternatives we investigated are outlined on the following sheets. --1 1 -- '." ----1 L ~-- --- --I r t--------4 50 I I I Front Apron I Parking ( , I . . . The major issues involved are: 1. The acquisition and demolition of the dental building. 2. The relocation of the business. 3. The elimination of a downtown property from the tax rolls. 4. Demolition of the current fire station and temporary housing for the department for approximately one year. 5. Offers good proximity to City Hall. 6. Restricted "call response" parking. 7. Grade change problems to the south side of the proposed structure. 8. No improvement to the egress from the apparatus bays on to a local street. r . . . . . . .
