CONSIDER APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION 99-XX ENDORSING
THE KIDS VOTING MINNESOTA PROGRAM.
DISCUSSION:
History
The City Council has received a presentation from Dave Panetti
regarding the Kids Voting Minnesota program for middle school
students. The program is intended to help students to prepare for
civic responsibility as adults.
Current Circumstances
Mr. Panetti has asked that the Council consider adopting a resolution
endorsing the program.
Conclusion
Unless the Council believes that there is reason not to support this
program, it would be appropriate to adopt the attached resolution.
ALTERNATIVES:
(1) Adopt Resolution 99-XX endorsing the Kids Voting Minnesota
program.
(2) Take no action.

A Resolution Endorsing the
Kids Voting Minnesota Program
in the Prior Lake Schools

WHEREAS,
communities and local governments benefit from informed, civic-minded and active
residents; and
WHEREAS,
Kids Voting Minnesota is intended to create interest and an understanding of the civic
responsibilities which students will assume as adults; and
WHEREAS,
Kids Voting Minnesota has been introduced in the Prior Lake - Savage school system
for the benefit of Prior Lake residents.
Now THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Prior Lake that the Kids Voting
Minnesota program is hereby officially adopted and endorsed by the City Council as a means of
improving student understanding of and participation in City government.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 18TH DAY OF OCTOBER, 1999.
