CONSIDER APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 TO
THE CONTRACT FOR THE 1999 IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT, #99-02.
DISCUSSION:
HISTORY
Project #99-02 is the lift station renovation project included
in the 1999 public improvements through a contract with
Braun Pump and Controls of New Prague, MN.
The project consists of rehabilitation of three existing duplex
submersible grinder pump lift stations. The work will vary
somewhat at each location, but in general consists of
replacing the upper portion of wet well, replacement of
piping and wiring in the wet well, new pumps, new control
panels, and site restoration.
This project was originally bid as a part of the Candy
Cove/Lakeside Manor Street Improvement project. The bids
were rejected due the high cost of the lift station
renovations. Council directed staff to readvertise the lift
station renovations as a separate project.
The force main and valve manhole installation required for
lift station #12 remain in the Candy Covel Lakeside Manor
project which was awarded to Northwest Asphalt, Inc. The
existing forcemain will be removed during the proposed
forcemain installation requiring bypass pumping in order to
maintain sanitary sewer service to 35 homes during this
construction. In separating the two projects, the bypass
pumping was not addressed in the street reconstruction
contract.

CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES
Northwest Asphalt is proposing to complete the forcemain
and valve manhole construction in September. This work will
be coordinated with Braun Pump and Controls for the lift
station #12 renovations.
Braun Pump and Controls' proposal for the bypass pumping
totals $2,500.00. Staff has reviewed this proposal, agrees it
is fair and equitable, and recommends approval.
CONCLUSION
Bypass pumping during forcemain installation is necessary
to maintain sanitary sewer service for approximately 35
homes.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The original contract was $117,800.00. This change order is
approximately 2% of the original contract. Funding for this
change order is proposed to be from the Trunk Reserve fund
due to the fact the extra work was required in conjunction
with the lift station renovations.
ALTERNATIVES: The alternatives are:
1. Approve Change Order No.1.
2. Deny this item for a specific reason and provide staff with
direction.
3. Table this item until some date in the future.
RECOMMENDED
MOTION:
A motion and second approving Change Order No. 1 to the
Lift Station Renovations Project #99-02, funded through the
Trunk Reserve fund.
