HomeMy WebLinkAbout4K - Declare Equipment Surplus to City Needs
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA #:
PREPARED BY:
APRIL 19, 1999
4K
BILL O'ROURKE, CHIEF OF POLICE
AGENDA ITEM:
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO DECLARE
EQUIPMENT SURPLUS TO CITY NEEDS AND AUTHORIZE
DISPOSAL OF SAME.
DISCUSSION:
History
The City has three excess vehicles which have been acquired for different
reasons, including drug forfeiture, by the Police Department over the past few
years. The vehicles are a 1985 Chevrolet Blazer, a 1985 Honda Shadow
motorcycle, and a 1990 Accura Integra. The vehicles have no City unit
numbers.
The vehicles are in various stages of functionality. The Blazer is not licensed,
will start, but will not pass an emissions test without work. It is estimated that
such work would cost more that the vehicle is worth to us. The Accura is
currently licensed and operational. The motorcycle is not currently licensed
and it's operation is questionable in that it has sat in the Annex for the past
three years.
Current Circumstances
There are no plans to use these vehicles for City business and they are
presently occupying much needed storage space. We therefore seek the
Council's permission to advertise them for sale as authorized by City Code.
An ad will be place in the Prior Lake American and each vehicle will be sold
to the highest bidder.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Whatever funds are received from the sale of this equipment are contributed to
the General Fund.
