HomeMy WebLinkAbout4B - Election Judge Appointments for November 7, 1997 STAFF AGENDA REPORT DATE: 4B RALPH TESCHNER, FINANCE DIRECTOR CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPOINTMENTS FOR 1997 GENERAL ELECTION SEPTEMBER 2, 1997 INTRODUCTION: The upcoming election on Tuesday, November 4, 1997 will consist of a general citywide election for the following offices: CITY Mayor (1) Councilmembers (2) SCHOOL DISTRICT #719 Boardmembers (2) As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the election day activities. DISCUSSION: The General Election will be a joint effort between the City and School District, with city staff coordinating the process. Similarly, the cost of the election will be shared evenly between our two jurisdictions. For information purposes all precincts with the exception of Precinct #4 are located within Prior Lake School District 719. A small portion of Precinct #4 lies within Shakopee School District #720 and these voters 16200 Eagle Creek Ave. S.E., Prior Lake. Minnesota 55372-1714 / Ph. Total registered voter count is presently 8,114. It is interesting to note the virtual identical size of precincts 1, 2 and 3 with respect to number of registered voters. Each precinct will be staffed with 3 election judges. Within the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the poll openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $6.25 per hour. RECOMMENDATION: Staff would recommend approval of the attached list of election judges by precinct. Staff has contacted the judges and each has expressed interest in serving in this year's election. ACTION REQUIRED: A motion to approve as part of the consent agenda is in order. Attachments I.
