As requested by Mr. Bob Vinklemeier of Steiner and Koppleman, the
writer visited the site today to observe foundation base soils for the
residence at 14560 Wild's Parkway. I understand the City Building
Inspector was on-site at 2:00 p.m. today and did not allow foundation
placement.
The basement foundations and garage foundations will be resting on
controlled sandy clay fill. I performed Static Cone Penetrometer (SCP)
testing in these base soils indicating at least 3,000 psf was
available, suitable for construction support.
The rear walkout footing area has extended off the previously prepared
building pad. These footings step down through a 2-1/2 to 3 foot
organic silt layer, exposing naturally-occurring gray silty clay. A
test pit excavated outside of the western footing line had standing
water in the test hole at approximately 4 feet below rear walkout
footing elevation. The footings for the walkout area were excavated
with a backhoe with teeth on the bucket. The foundation bases within
formwork previously placed were very rough with loosened clay soil.
SCP testing performed in the naturally-occurring clays indicate at
least 2,500 psf is available (below the disturbed surface), in our
opinion suitable for typical house foundation support. We recommend

the foundation bases be hand excavated for the walkout area, to provide
a smooth surface prior to concrete placement.
The 2-1/2 to 3 foot organic silt layer is present within the rear of
the house floor slab support. We recommend this material be removed,
exposing naturally-occurring clay with a smooth bucket backhoe, and new
fill be placed and compacted for floor slab support.
In general, it appears that soil conditions are suitable for
construction support. After hand excavating soils to provide a smooth
footing base surface for walkout footings, and removal of organic soils
and replacement with inorganic fill, it is our opinion suitable support
could be provided for foundation and floor slab loadings.

The writer was requested to re-observe foundation base soils on
August 14, 1995. Due to weekend rains, some softening and mucking of
base soils was present in the rear walkout footings. Recommended muck
be removed prior to footing pour. After removal, base soils are
suitable for footing support.
