WEBSITE

PRESENTATION: The 2020 Vision and Strategic Plan includes annual goals and objectives for staff
completion. One of our objectives carried over from 2002 is "complete web page,
update and keep current." I have been working together with a consultant and
staff committee to complete this objective. The new webpage was launched last
Thursday, May 15, 2003. At the City Council meeting, I would like to give the City
Council and our viewers both a narrative and internet tour of the City's new
webpage.
www.cityofpriorlake.comis a vital marketing tool in reaching the community and
targeting new residents and businesses. A strong web presence will help to
achieve the goals of the 2020 Vision and Strategic Plan and promote community
growth and development. The website has been developed with the customer's
needs being our primary concern. The primary objectives of the new site are: To
provide browsers with convenient navigation, up-to-date information, quality
aesthetics and design and other important City news while promoting the image
of Prior Lake.
The graphics selected on the homepage and throughout the site are a reflection
of Prior Lake. The graphic to the left on the homepage is symbolic of the future of
downtown when renovation will be completed. The lightpost with logo, brick front
buildings and rainwater gardens will comprise the new Prior Lake downtown.
With the look of the future on the homepage, the City of Prior Lake provides
viewers with a visual of downtown redevelopment from the 2020 Vision and
Strategic Plan. The background picture found throughout the site is of Prior Lake.
The 2020 Vision and Strategic Plan is promoted on the homepage with a pdf of
the document along with two different previews of the 2020 Vision video. A new
scrolling current announcements" section has been added to allow us to feature
new information to users.
Frequently requested topics are found under the Fast Find to take browsers
directly to the link. A search box is available for typing in key words to locate
desired content. Using the City's new Laserfiche program, users will have access
to minutes, agendas, reports and the like.
The site has four primary components which are City Government, City
Information, Department Information and Contact Us.

City Government:
Under City Government, browsers will find information on the City Council,
Planning Commission, Lake Advisory Committee and Parks Advisory Committee
as well as agenda packets and meeting dates. Voting information is also found
under City Government.
City Information:
The City Information section provides the history of Prior Lake, demographics,
utility billing, a map library and various licenses & permits. These forms will be
available for download as PDF's for individuals to print and fill out. Further
information about Current Announcements and links to relevant sites are also
found under City Information.
Departments:
Under the Departments category, each area will have its own department page in
which some include frequently asked questions, ordinances and codes which are
frequently referenced, licenses and permits and other personalized information
for each area. The departments represented are Administration, Parks &
Recreation, Building, Finance, Fire, Planning, Police and Public Works. Forms,
City Codes and Ordinances and maps can all be downloaded via PDF format.
Contact Us:
Browsers are welcome to contact the City of Prior Lake employees through the
provided emails and phone numbers within this section. Employees are listed
under the appropriate area with the option to click on their emails from the page.
The current website has been designed to provide internal and external customer
service. This was accomplished through utilizing valuable feedback from
residents and businesses as well as employees. Internally, employees have been
educated on the site to provide external customer service through an
informational session with City employees.
Conclusion:
The preparation of this website has truly been a partnership. A new web
committee has been created representing each City department. The work of this
committee has been key to developing the new website. I am grateful for their
contributions. They will also assure that the website will remain up-to-date which
is essential to its continued credibility to the user. We also took the opportunity to
share the site under development on two separate occasions with over 40 Prior
Lake users. Their assessment of the site was very positive. More important, they
provided excellent suggestions which we used to improve the site. I am most
proud of the fact that the improvements to the site were accomplished at a
modest cost of less than $3,000.00.
