On, Sept. 15 and again on the 27~" r inspected the above rock rotaming walls at the above address. 1
alllo talked with the contractor that installed those walls. It had rained before Sept. 15 and the walls
showed no sign of failure. The terracing maintained about a 4 foOl height of each rock step, The
setbacks or allcast 4 to 5 feet maintaim:d a condition that minimized [he outward pressures on the
lower portions of the system The rocks were backed by a geo-textile fabric that will allow seepage
behind the wall to exit through the wall, thus alleviating any build-up of groundwater pressure hehind
the walls.
I have been Engineer on several of these systems and found that although 1 have not done the
Engineering on this system, it has been done essentially as 1 would have directed. I consider that these
walls are substantial and have been constructed in a manner thar is structurally stable for the location
of this house

Field Observations:
(1) This site is in the Windsong Addition near the intersection of Highways 21 and 82 in
Prior Lake. The lot elevates considerably to the back, but most of the excess soil had
been removed by the time of the inspection. Also completed were the forms for the
footings except for a few boards. There was no reinforcing steel set for the footings so
negotiating the footing trenches was not difficult.
(2) This site was nearly 100% brown clay soils and these soils had a uniform strength and
consistency on the strong side. One unique property of the site was tree roots and
vegetation in the upper 30". If there were any lower or in the footing zone they had been
removed. They were strings, nothing thick or strong.
(3) A very minor amount of water was coming from the bank in the northwest corner. It was
less than a few quarts, it was not weakening the soils even outside the footing trench.
