I am writing in regards to the proposed snowmobile trail adjacent to county
road 21 and Credit River Road. Particularly being concerned about the area
from highway 13 to Franklin trail. Obviously noise, the probable ruin of new
grass just installed, but snowmobiles and drivers using either of the roads
that the trail would be running through are a Hugh safety concern. Routing a
trail right next to a road with hundreds of cars traveling 50 mph, many do
not keep their speed at the 40 mph, is dangerous. As stated by the
snowmobile club on the October 25 meeting, they dropped the ball and did
not attend the informational meetings with Scott County in regards to the
rebuilding of county road 21. Now in a desperate plea they are proposing
this route for a one year trial. The proposal is for a two way route. At the
Evanston and Credit River Road intersection the usable width goes from two
lanes past the electrical pole down to six feet eight inches with a forty-five
degree slant down into the Credit River Road. Going west there are three
trees and in front of the house number 4900 the path narrows to five feet of
the usable space. The snowmobile club stated that a ten mph limit would be
posted and the drivers would be courteous. The reality is that to many people
this is a pipe dream and not realistic. The snowmobile club stated that on
state highways it is illegal to ride against oncoming traffic and yet they are
endorsing riders to do so on county road 21, which would be only curb
inches away from them. Except for a point at Franklin trail the route is
considered two way traffic and having lived at our home thirty nine years I
am aware as to the street maintenance done during the winter season. Snow
from both roads is pushed up to a point between roads. Being a snowmobile
rider, it would be quite impossible to cross over this the mounds of snow
traveling either direction. For the safety involved in this proposal it would
not be a wise or safe decision. The RVTBSC is endorsing this route with
little or no regard to the lives of its riders. Seeing positive talk from the Scott
County Sheriff, Prior Lake Police, the Prior Lake school bus transit
department and Prior Lake maintenance department makes me wonder
WHY?
