HomeMy WebLinkAbout7B - Speed Limit Postings Status Report AGENDA ITEM: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A REPORT REGARDING THE STATUS OF SPEED LIMIT POSTINGS ON CR 21 FROM CR 42 TO CR 87 DISCUSSION: Introduction The purpose of this report is to update the City Council and residents on the status of speed limits postings for CR 21 between CR 42 and CR 87. Two segments are of interest. The first is CR 21 from TH 13 to CR 87. The second is CR 21 from CR 42 to CR 82. Historv Scott County completed reconstruction of several segments of CR 21 this summer. During construction the existing speed limit signs were removed. At the December 3, 2007 City Council meetings staff was directed to discuss speed limit postings with the County and report back to the City Council. Current Circumstances Staff has discussed the City's concerns regarding areas near Lords Street and between Franklin Trail and TH 13 where pre-project speed limits were posted at less than 50 mph. The County has requested a speed study be completed for CR 21 by MnDOT from CR 87 to TH 13 and from the Wagon Bridge to Carriage Hills Parkway in accordance with State Law. It will be 12-18 months before MnDOT issues the updated speed limits for those segments. Based on that delay the County will be reinstalling the pre-project speed limit signs. They were not aware the pre- project speed limit signs had not been replaced and are in the process of reinstalling them. The speed limit east of TH 13 are currently posted as 50 mph in both directions. ISSUES: The County is addressing the issue raised by the City regarding the missing 45 mph signs. At the Council meeting I will display a graphic showing the speed limits on various segments of CR 21. FINANCIAL None IMPACT: RECOMMENDED No action by the City Council is required.
