Re: Single Family Residence, 3202 Wood Duck Drive, Prior Lake, MN
Monday, Dec. 9, I reviewed the basement of the above house with particular attention [0 a beam
consisting of three 12" x 1 3/4" ParaJams (or Micro lams) 10' long which was placed. on 2 additional
2"x4" studs on one end and three studs at the other end. I have calculated the stresses on this
composite beam and find that it will support the standard loading of the walls, floors and roof above.
The studs will also suppon: the calculated loads, The nominal floor live load would be 40 pst' and the
live load for the roof would be 40 p,( The CO,,",lUction w.. adequalC and llIe po". Were supported
by the footing. for the waIl which the beam replaced. Tn this case, I would not require that any
additional footings be placed. below the stud posts. The end suppon distance was also adequate,
The substitution of the beam and posts is more than adequate and will effilctively support the loads of
the floors and roof above.
