Re: Please Volunteer to Serve on the Task Force
Prior Lake wants to become a model that other communities use to promote community safety.
We have a great beginning in the form of the many safety programs offered by civic and athletic
groups, schools, city, churches and others. But rather than rest upon these accomplishments, we
want to create a comprehensive and cohesive community safety program wh ich addresses a wide
variety of safety topics.
A Task Force consisting of representatives from five areas (as recommended by the Jacob
Wetterling Foundation) will lead this effort. The five areas are:
?
Parents, grandparents, caregivers
?
Schools, faith base d, civic, daycare organizations, and ECFE
?
Law enforcement and legal
?
Public policy makers at all levels
?
Corporations
You have received this memo because we believe you, people you know or members of your
staff would be great members or resources to the Com munity Safety Task Force.
Persons who become members of the Task Force can expect to participate in five to seven
committee or subcommittee meetings. The purpose of the meetings will be to:
?
Determine what safety efforts are offered by various resources today.
?
Identify what short and long range initiatives would be appropriate to create a
comprehensive and cohesive safety program for Prior Lake.
?
Prepare a report on this topic for City Council consideration which includes
recommended actions and the type o f ongoing effort necessary to keep the safety and
health of our community an ongoing priority.
We hope you will agree to serve on the Task Force. To do so, simply fill out the attached
information sheet and e - mail, fax or mail it to Charlotte Green no la ter than October 19, 2007.
We will schedule an orientation meeting based upon the information you submit.
