Approval of January meeting minutes (as amended) Approval of Agenda : unanimous No presentations or public hearings. The meeting opened with a discussion by Chief O’Rourke of the process for once again reconvening the task f orce to again survey community members regarding current safety priorities. This recurring assessment was approved in 2010 by the city council as a CSAC committee objective. The original group of 47 community members invited to participate included communi ty leaders in business, church, school and government. The committee will invite the same individuals to participate in the 2011 survey. New participants to be invited include representatives from Scott county health, domestic violence, youth, and city rec reation participants . T he survey will support the city’ s planned updates for the 2030 Vision Statement. Chief O’Rourke summarized the process used previously for the group. Participants initially provided a list of community safety issues important to the m. Then each of the participants r anked all of the safety issues identified. From these rankings, issues were prioritized and sub groups were formed to develop strategies, including specific objectives, to mitigate the issue of concern. At that time the subgroups formed were:  Substance use/abuse  Predatory Offenders  Active Neighborhoods  Bullying and Harassment  Traffic/Driving/Accidents The committee will again survey the community members using email asking for the participants to submit 5 Health and/or S afety issues of concern to them. Then all the issues surfaced will be listed and again using email we will ask participants to rank them for potential committee objective s . The committee discussed various web enabled survey methods, including “ survey monke y.” Student groups would be surveyed to surface issues of concern . Other business included a discussion of a secure ‘drop box’ for unused or expired prescription drugs as well as illegal drugs . This drop box would be located in the vestibule for the Prio r Lake Police Station. Access would be from inside the facility. The Community Safety Advisory Committee supports this initiate. This option would provide an alternative to flushing these toxic chemicals down the toilet. This is a real life problem in our community as family members discover a medicine cabinet full of prescription drugs when dealing with the passing of a relative. Properly labeled p rescription drugs are accepted at the County Hazardous Waste site. Chief O’Rourke stated the only disposal opt ion for illegal drugs is in the state of Illinois . Meeting was adjourned at 5:30PM Next meeting: Thursday, 10 March 2011 at 4:00 pm City Hall .
