MINUTES OF THE LAKE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
February 19, 1997
I. CALL TO ORDER
The Lake Advisory Committee meeting convened on Wednesday, February 19, 1997 at
6:35 p.m. Members present: Chair Jody Stroh, Marianne Breitbach, Kate Haggerty, Tom
Kearney and Paul Trapp. Others present were Water Resources Coordinator Lani Leichty.
Members absent: Doug Larson and Rick Warner.
II. CONSIDER APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MEETING
The first item on the agenda was to approve the Minutes of the meeting for January 15,
1997.
A majority of members were not present at the January 15, 1997, therefore, no action was
taken regarding minutes for this meeting.
III. 1997 LAC GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The 1997 Goals and Objectives were discussed with the two new members, Haggerty and
Trapp, and what would be the main items to concentrate on in 1997.
MOTION BY KEARNEY, SECONDED BY BREITBACH TO APPROVE THE 1997 GOALS
AND OBJECTIVES. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
There was considerable discussion about milfoil and how to address the issue of public
education during the 1997 regarding management of nuisance lake weeds, especially since
the relationship between the City and the Watershed is indecisive.
It was agreed upon by the committee to invite Steve McComas, of Blue Water Science,
back this year to do a lakeside demonstration project again sometime in June. Other
methods of informing the public on milfoil and lake management techniques mentioned
were articles in the Wave Length, newspaper articles and handouts that could be placed in
the paper or mailed.
IV.
PUBLIC EDUCATION
-
Stroh submitted two articles to be used in the public educational brochure. The two
articles submitted pertained to aquascaping and hazardous wastes. The other article
previously submitted by Larson was on composting.

V. WATER QUALITY MONITORING
Water quality monitoring was discussed as to what areas should be monitored and if any
duplication of efforts would occur with other agencies. Leichty mentioned that it was his
desire to obtain some baseline data in lakes other than Prior and Spring. Monitoring of
NURP ponds is also a desire to see if they are as effective at removing sediment and
nutrients as the models predict. Trapp and Leichty decided that for this first year of
modeling the NURP ponds at Carriage Hills and the stream by Cates Street would be
monitored.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
The annual meeting with the City Council and LAC will be held April 7, 1997 at 5:30 p.m.
prior to the City Council meeting.
VII. ADJOURNMENT
MOTION BY HAGGERTY, SECONDED BY TRAPP TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AT
8:25 P.M., MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
Respectfully submitted,
