January meeting minutes were not reviewed Approval of Agenda: - unanimous No presentations or public hearings. The committee reviewed the material planned to be presented to the city council at the 21 February meeting. The committee agreed to group the material into six issue focus areas as follows:  Domestic Violence  Protection our Children – Bullying  Substance Abuse Prevention  Traffic and Driving Safety  Residential and Property Crimes  Other Issues The CSAC presentation to council in February will include some committee background and accomplishments. The committee reviewed the updated version of the City of Prior Lake 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan. It was agreed that based on results of the two separate city and committee sanctioned surveys to add the Residential and Property Crime category to the list of CSAC 2012 Issue to be expored. Specific objectives for this category will include ‘Night 2 Unite’ which was formerly National Night Out, the neighborhood watch and neighborhood association gatherings. The committee will identify individual contact people for these groups. Lt Hofstad and Chief O’Rourke spoke about a potential problem in the community observed by overnight squads on routine patrols in the city. The issue is garage doors which are not closed overnight. The problem is the potential easy access to the interior of the garage and likelihood of theft. Also of concern would be unobserved access to vehicles in the garage and theft of garage door openers which may be used at a later time. The committee discussed the possibility of the use of media to alert city property owners of this problem and recommend keeping all doors shut and locked at night. The committee discussed the vision element in the 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan relating to health and will request additional guidance from council on this issue..
