Ken Hedberg, and Mayor Mike Myser, stepped into the meeting to meet Rachel Pearson our new student committee member. Absent: Chair Pat Dougherty, Vice Chair Linda Ringstad, Janine Alcorn Meeting called to order at 4:05 pm by Woody. nd August meeting minutes were reviewed, amended;: motion Gina, 2 Betsy; approval unanimous nd Approval of Agenda: - motion Gina, 2 Woody, approval unanimous No presentations or public hearings. Rachel Pearson, who was nominated as a committee member by Dave Lund (PLHS Principal) attended the meeting. She was welcomed and introduced to the committee. Rachel was provided some background material to review in order to understand the committee charter and objectives. Rachel did bring a completed committee application which was used in her interview later in the meeting. Mary Ann Bigaouette provided the committee her view of the committee sponsored Domestic Violence event at the Prior Lake Community Fest. Mary Ann was concerned that the ‘ClothesLine Project’ was moved inside the building from our preliminary plan to setup outside. The plans were changed after school officials expressed concern that the material might no be appropriate for students. Actually, there were a large number of students in the building when the clothesline was hung, and they displayed no interest in the material. Mary Ann also mentioned that all the high schools in the SVABW service area, except Prior Lake, offer her staff the opportunity to participate in classes relating to relationships and domestic abuse. Mary Ann cannot explain this situation and would like to participate in the PLHS curriculum. To this end Rachel Pearson offered to ask her health instructor if this situation may be corrected. The committee discussed expenditure of up to $200, from the PLPD account for DV, for a new printer, toner and paper for SVABW. Mary Ann was said that the need for photo quality printer was surfaced at a SV staff meeting earlier in the week. As we did not have a quorum of members at the October meeting the expenditure will be added to the November meeting agenda. Randy discussed the Toward Zero Death statewide crackdown on seat belt use planned for Oct 12 through Oct 26. Departments across the state use grant funding to pay officers time applied to this effort. Randy provided background information citing the critical need for use of seat belts which provide ‘room to live’ in serious crashes. Automobiles today are constructed to protect the passenger compartment permitting belted occupants to survive extensive damage to their vehicle. Randy asked if committee members would be interested in participating in a promotion panel interview for PLPD Sergeant position. Woody indicted that he would be available if the interviews were 17/18 Oct; Gina is available if the interviews slip to the following week (24/25 Oct). The committee reviewed Rachel’s application and conducted an interview. Rachel answered all our questions fully and we agreed that her application showed her to be well qualified for the position. The committee approved her appointment by unanimous vote. Randy will provide the application and interview notes to Frank Boyles on Friday, 12 October. nd Move to adjourn meeting: Betsy, 2 Gina, unanimous, Meeting adjourned at 5:30PM.
