The th extension of the trail being installed as part of the 150 Street/Hwy 13 improvement project to Main Street and downtown Prior Lake was discussed and endorsed by the CSAC at the May meeting. After the CSAC presentation the Parks Advisory Committee also endorsed the idea of extending the walking/biking trail to downtown by unanimous vote. City Staff will undertake a study of possible funding sources and examine possible routing of the trial in consideration of cost and topographical issues. Lt Randy Hofstad updated the committee on the recent campaign focused on distracted driving. This effort was undertaken by police departments across the metro area. The PLPD used an unmarked Tahoe (providing better visibility of the drivers activity) parked near intersections for this focused effort. The intensive campaign was successful in citing a number of offenders and will continue with officers continuing to target this potentially dangerous driving behavior. The committee cited Parent Teacher groups as a resource to disseminate information regarding Distracted Driving behaviors for student drivers. Lt Hofstad mentioned that the Prior Lake American sends a reporter to the police station each Wednesday at 1PM to review police calls for the previous week. Randy indicated that the paper does not necessarily report the briefing material verbatim. The CSAC reviewed the door hangers prepared by the PLPD to alert home owners that they have left their garage door open overnight. This change will be announced in the Prior Lake American alerting residents of this safety measure. Lt Hofstad indicated the measure is supported by officers of the PD. Homeowners notified of open garage doors will be tracked, and repeat offenders will be noted. CSAC nd approved the notification approach as moved the Linda Ringstad, 2 by Woody and unanimous approval. Lt Hofstad plans to display the garage door notification hangers at upcoming Night 2 Unite st events scheduled for 1 Thursday in August. PLPD will again participate in the Community Fest at the PL High School in September. The CSAC is in agreement that the event at Lakefront Park sponsored for the last 2 years which is used to raise awareness and solicit funding for SVABW is poorly attended and may not be worth the effort expended. As an alternative the committee discussed a table and display using the Clothesline Project at the fall Community Fest. Woody will email Mary Anne to get some feedback on this idea. The CSAC 2012 Objectives need to be drafted and distributed to all members for review and approval at the July meeting. Action for Woody Spitzmueller. Linda Ringstad will continue to solicit interest in a student member for the CSAC committee via the SADD group advisor at the High School. The committee discussed safety related issues that may be of concern to neighboring communities. The committee members asked Lt Hofstad if Savage/Shakopee have equivalent safety advisory bodies. Subsequent to the meeting Lt Hofstad advised CSAC members that Savage has no equivalent citizen advisory body. Meeting adjourned at 5:20PM.
