No presentations or public hearings.
The committee agreed to request use of the Clothesline Project from the Minnesota Coalition for
Battered Women in St Paul at the annual Prior Lake Community Fest. The Clothesline Project has
been setup at the CSAC sponsored walks for awareness of Domestic Violence at prior year events. The
project is a memorial to victims of domestic violence, using articles of clothing to which a brief story
of their tragic death is affixed. The clothesline will be setup at the high school at the east (main)
entrance in the morning of September 17, 2012. The committee will offer information about our goals
and sell the ‘Luv Should not Hurt’ bracelets ordered by the police department. Linda has discussed this
arrangement with district officials responsible for the event.
Mary Ann Bigaouette from the Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women attended the meeting
and supports the change in venue for the committee event. The committee was very disappointed in the
attendance, in spite of extensive media promotion, at the event last fall in Lakefront Park. All agree
that the Community Fest will offer a much larger audience.
CSAC plans to get the word out using city media and handouts for our table at Community Fest this
fall. The committee will research statistics relating to local incidents of domestic violence to assemble
a brochure or flyer for use at the event and for presentation to the city council I was suggested that the
city cable channel might consider an interview with Randy Hofstad and Mary Ann for Frank Boyles
‘Inside City Hall’ program.
The Scott County attorney’s office is again funding the Climb Theater in county schools. Randy
Hofstad believes that there is no special focus on heroin in the current program intended to make
students aware of the dangers of using gateway drugs. Heroin is a very significant police issue at
present since the street value has dropped. Randy provided a summary of citations issued under the
social host ordinance for the last 4 years (since inception) as follows: 2009 – 6 total (5 adults); 2010 –
7 total (4 adults); 2011 – 3 total (3 adults); and 2012 to date – 2 total.
Discussed establishing a Facebook page for the CSAC using a link to the city Facebook page. We will
approach Mike Peterson in this regard. Also discussed the annual neighborhood night out, now termed
Night 2 Unite! There have been 21 communities registered with the city this year. City police and fire
vehicles attempt to visit each of these parties. The purpose of the annual neighborhood get together is
to better acquaint neighbors in order to more effectively combat crime in the area.
The committee updated the 2012 Goals and Objectives for the final 2012 version. The committee
reviewed the 2012 Domestic Violence Awareness month declaration which is presented to the council
and mayor.
