Discussed plans for the committee sponsored Domestic Violence event at the Prior Lake Community Fest. The committee will support the Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women in staffing a booth at Community Fest. The booth will feature the Clothesline Project made available through the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women. The Clothesline Project is a moving display featuring actual garments from victims of DV in Minnesota. Attached to each garment is an accounting of the crime. The Clothesline is available for a specific year so we will request 2008 which is the year that Ruth Ann Maddox was murdered by her husband in the city. Jan will represent SV at the event. Gina will get some Hersey cocolate kisses for treats. PL PO Darcy White and Mary Ann shared some surprising statistics about the incidence of DV in our area. In Prior Lake there were 91 reported incidents last year; and in Shakopee there were 230 incidents of DV reported. Professionals believe that incidents of DV are significantly underreported. Locally there are many calls from the SMSC for DV, typically by the girl friend of a tribal member. Darcy explained that if a responding PO witnesses abuse and it warrants charges, the charges may be brought forward by the police department thereby taking the victim off the hook. Of course this will permit charges to precede if the witness is inclined to recant her testimony as if often the case. For the information of committee members, Mary Ann Bigaouette did get together with PL PO Darcy White for an excellent session about domestic violence recorded with Frank Boyles as an ‘inside city hall’ web video. The video is accessible on the city’s web site. The CSAC voted to approve donating $100 of the funds donated for DV by the PL Optomists to the nd MN Coalition for Battered Women. Motion by Janine, 2 by Gina; approved by unanimous vote. Darcy reported the door hangers printed this summer to remind residents of open garage doors are being reordered. In the last month there were 20 open doors reported. Residences being notified are tracked; Darcy also mentioned that she was contacted by a student who claimed to be the victim of cyber bullying. We also discussed contacting Mike Peterson about a Prior Lake city Facebook page link to the CSAC web site. nd Move to adjourn meeting: Linda, 2 Woody, unanimous, Meeting adjourned at 5:20PM.
