Comply with pertinent provisions of Section 01340. B. Within 30 calendar days after the Contractor has received the Owner's Notice to Proceed, submit to the Architect for review: 1. Materials list of items proposed to be provided under this Section. 2. Manufacturer's specifications and other data needed to prove compliance with the specified requirements. 3. PAGE 2 01=6 C. Warranty: Upon completion of the installation and as a condition of its acceptance, Contractor shall deliver to the Owner a written manufacturer's warranty. Manufacturer shall warrant: to replace and/or repair, to the approval of the Owner, all leaks in the shingle roofing installed under this Section for a period of 25 years following date of installation. 1.4 PRODUCT HANDLING: A. Comply with pertinent delivery, storage and protection provisions of Section 01640. 1. Deliver materials and products in labeled protective packages. Store and handle in strict compliance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. 2. Protect from damage from weather, excessive temperatures and construction operations. B. Protection: Use all means necessary to protect shingles before, during, and after installation and to protect the installed work and materials of all other trades. C. Replacements: In the event of damage, immediately make all repairs and replace- ments necessary to the approval of the Architect and at no additional cost to the Owner. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Qualifications: Work shall be performed by a Roofing Contractor, who has installed roofs of similar size and complexity and has been in business for a minimum of five (5) years. Upon request, the Contractor shall furnish a list of previous installations. B. Qualifications of Workmen: Provide at least one (1) person who shall be present al: all times during execution of this portion of the Work, who shall be thoroughly familiar with the materials specified and the proper methods for their installation, and who shall personally direct all work of this Section. C. Provide all attic ventilation type venting as indicated on the Drawings and provide any additional roof venting as required to comply with attic ventilation requirements of the Building Code. 1.6 WARRANTY: Provide manufacturer's Limited Warranty (submit prior to application for final payment) against defects in materials for a period of 25 years after acceptance of the building by the Owner. Repairs to the roof shall be made at no additional cost to the Owner. PART 2- MATERIALS: 2.1 SHINGLES: A. Glass fiber mat, asphaltic free, mineral granule surfaced Class A, 250 pound per square, self sealing, square tab type, complying with ANSVASTM D 3018, Type 1. 1. Manufacturer: Certainteed, Landmark Shingle or approved equal. 2. Provide 90# roll roofing with mineral surface of color matching shingle color for top layer of valley protection or provide metal valley installation. 2.3 UNDERLAYMENT: ANSI/ASTM 0226, 15# non-perforated asphalt saturated felts. 2.4 FASTENERS: Nails: Hot dipped, zinc-coated steel, 12 gage minimum shank, 3/8" head, length sufficient: to penetrate deck. 2.5 ADHESIVES: A. Plastic Cement: ANSI/ASTM D2822, cutback asphalt type with mineral fiber components. B. Lap Cement: Fibrated cutback asphalt type. 2.6 DRIP EDGE: Pre-finished aluminum drip edge, 1-1/2" minimum width, to match color of eave soffit and fascia. 2.7 ROOF VENTS: A. Attic Roof Vents: 1. Pre-manufactured molded plastic or pre-manufactured aluminum vents. 2. Colors shall be as selected and approved by Owner/Architect/Interior Designer. B. Plumbing and Mechanical Vents: 1. Metal vent caps and other metal flashing items as required. Verify with Mechanical. C. Color shall be as selected and approved by Owner/Architect/Interior Designer. 2.9 METAL FLASHING AND STEPPED METAL FLASHING: A. Pre-finished sheet metal flashing and accessories shall be Una-Clad as manufactured by Copper Sales, Inc., Pac-Clad by Peterson Aluminum Corporation, Colorklad by Vincent Metal Goods or an approved equal. 1. 24-gauge hot dipped galvanized steel (G-90) commercial quality, primed and finished one (1)side with Kynar/500 coating: a. Coating: A fluoropolymer coating 1.0 mil dry film thickness shall be Duranar (full Kynar 500 70% resins) by P.P.G. Industries. Finish and color of exposed surfaces shall match color of adjacent materials and as selected and approved by Owner/Architect/Interior Designer. b. Furnish manufacturer's standard touch-up paint for field touch-up. B. Provide all appropriate metal flashing pieces where the top of sloped roofs meet vertical walls in minimum typical lengths of (10') ten-foot pieces with minimum laps of (3")three inches. An additional layer of 15# felt, (12") twelve inches minimum width by (36") thirty-six inches long shall be placed beneath and centered beneath all lapped joints. C. Provide typical 24-gauge stepped metal flashing pieces where the edges of the sloping portions of the sloped roofs meet vertical walls. 2.10 OTHER MATERIALS: Provide all other materials, not specifically described, but required for a complete and proper installation. These materials shall be new, first quality of their respective kinds, and subject to the approval of the Architect. PART 3- EXECUTION: 3.1 INSPECTION: A. Prior to all work of this Section, carefully inspect the installed work of all other trades and verify that all such work is complete to the point where this installation may properly commence. Have conditions detrimental to installation corrected. Do not proceed until conditions are satisfactory. 1. Verify that shingles may be installed in complete accordance with all pertinent codes and regulations, the original design, and the referenced standards. 2. Verify that the various roof openings are framed, sized and properly located prior to installing roof system. 3. The application of any of the specified materials for this Work shall indicate an acceptance of the conditions of the substrate or base materials for that area and shall indicate an acceptance of responsibility for the results of the application of this Work in regard to such substrates. C. Document field dimensions and conditions of substrates, supports, and other conditions under which this work is to be performed. 3.2 COORDINATION: A. Coordinate as required with other trades to assure proper and adequate provision by this Section of the Work for the work of those trades as it relates with the work of this Section. B. Coordinate as required with other trades to assure proper and adequate provision by this Section for the work required of those trades for installation of necessary blocking, supports, material interface and related requirements. C. Coordinate installation with adjacent work to ensure proper clearances and allow for maintenance. 3.3 INSTALLATION: A. Install the work of this Section in strict accordance with the shop drawings as submitted and approved by the Architect, with manufacturer's instructions and with manufacturer's recommended procedures. 1. Eave and Ice Dam Protection: a. Place eave and ice dam edge flashing tight with fascia boards. Weather lap joints and seal with plastic cement. Secure with nails. b. Bond rubberized-asphalt protection sheet to roof sheathing by removing release paper, seal seams with compatible sealant. Position lap seal over firm bearing. c. Extend protection membrane up roof slope a minimum 1'-0" beyond interior face of exterior walls. Install protection membrane over the entire roof area for certain portions of the roof. Refer to Drawings for these specific areas. 2. Valley Protection: Centered over ridges and valleys, bond one layer of rubberized-asphalt protection sheet to roof sheathing by removing release paper, seal seams with compatible sealant. Position lap seal over firm bearing and nail in place. Apply lap cement along each edge of first layer and embed layer of roll roofing centered over first layer. Place with mineral surface side up. 3. Underlayment: a. Place one ply of underlayment perpendicular to slope of roof, over area not protected by eave membrane with ends and edges weather lapped a minimum of 4". Nail protective underlayment in place. b. Weather lap underlayment at all locations where the top of sloped roofs meet vertical walls and at all locations where the edges of the sloping portions of the sloped roofs meet vertical walls. 4. Drip Edge: Weather lap joints and seal weather tight with plastic cement. Nail in place with concealed fastenings. 5. Shingles: a. Install shingles in straight coursing pattern over entire roof area starling with first course at bottom of slope as recommended by the Manufacturer. b. Project first course of shingles 3/4" beyond roof deck. c. Cap hips and non-vented section of ridges with individual shingles maintaining recommended weather exposure. d. Place two dabs of plastic cement, 1" in diameter under each shingle corner exposed to weather on roof slopes less than 4 in 12. 6. Roof Vents: a. Install attic ventilation roof vents as required by Building Code and as indicated on the Drawings. b. Plumbing and Mechanical Vents: Install all required metal sleeves, covers or caps for plumbing and mechanical penetrations through roof. 7. Flashing: a. Install all required flashing for plumbing and mechanical penetrations through roof. b. Flash and seal all vent work projecting through or mounted on roofing, with plastic cement, including ridge vents, plumbing and mechanical vents, slope vents and any other rooftop devices. c. Install all of the required metal flashing where the edges of the sloping portions of the sloped roofs meet vertical walls and similar roof penetrations. Refer to Drawings for details. d. Install all of the required stepped, metal flashing where sloping roofs slope away from vertical walls and similar roof penetrations. Refer to Drawings for details. 3.4 ACCEPTANCE: A. Upon completion, surfaces shall be smooth, flat, tightly bonded, without any bumps, wrinkles, warps, sags or other imperfections. B. Components shall be installed level and true in a uniform pattern and without any imperfections. C. Flashing items shall be installed complete as specified with appropriate lapping and in such a manner as necessary to prevent penetration of water through the exterior shell of the building.
