HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Memo-Accidents 03-04-13 Phone 952.447.9800 / Fax 952.447.4245 / www.cityofpriorlake.com Memo Date: March 4, 2013 To: City Council From: Traffic Safety Advisory Committee Subject: City of Prior Lake Vehicular Accidents The Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) was requested by the City Council to review accident data for the City of Prior Lake and provide recommendations to alleviate the rising accident rates within the City. At the TSAC meeting, only data from 2010 to 2012 was shared. An open dialogue was held with some key points that should be noted. • With an average of 1.2 incidents per day, the Committee Members felt that the number of traffic accidents within City limits were reasonable. • Committee members requested that additional data be queried for broader comparison. • Compare data with other surrounding communities. After review of the data and discussing ways to reduce accidents, the Committee has the following recommendations: • Focus efforts at high traffic accident frequency areas and implement site specific traffic controls after studying each site • Collaborate with police department on education for distracted driving. • Use message sign on County Road 21 to warn of distracted driving.
