March 12, 2015 Meeting Minutes
Attending: Pat Dougherty, Linda Ringstad, Janine Alcorn, Gina Gertner, Woody Spitzmueller, PLPD

Meeting called to order at 4:05 pm by Pat.
Approval of January Agenda: Motion by Pat; 2nd by Woody. Approval Unanimous.
Approval of December Minutes: Motion by Janine, 2nd by Pat. Approval Unanimous
Committee discussed council matter relating to tobacco sales ordinance violation by an employee of the
Shell gas station in the city. Owner is appealing the current ordinance penalty for his 2nd offense.
Committee discussion was not formalized but consensus was to keep existing ordinance penalties as on
the books.
Discussed the Internet safety night hosted by the school district and CSAC. Presentation by BCA
representative was informative; opened eyes of parents regarding new web sites which permit interaction
among youth (or youth imposters) with random links. “Yic Yac” and “omegal” mentioned as popular sites
among students which connect users with other locals without profile controls common for more
traditional sites like Facebook.
Discussed the cities proposed short term rental policy intended to reduce neighborhood impact of ‘party’
houses. Some compliants to council regarding this issue. Committee did not reach consensus on this
matter with regard to council recommendation.
The group added a new element to the 2014 Recommended Objectives list under “Residential and
Property Crimes” that would be titled “Education program for seniors for improving personal safety and
avoiding financial and data vulnerability.”
New city police chief interviews completed and decision imminent.
