HomeMy WebLinkAbout09 08 16 CSAC MinutesCommunity Safety Advisory Committee 8 September 2016 Meeting Minutes Attending: Betsy Jader, Janine Alcorn, Woody Spitzmueller, Linda Ringstad, Pat Dougherty, Chief Mark Elliot, Absent: Gina Gertner, Liz Heile, Councilor Keeney Meeting called to order at 4:10 pm by Linda 3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Woody, 2nd by Betsy; approval unanimous. 4. Approval of meeting minutes: Motion to approve by Betsy, 2nd by Woody, approval unanimous 5. No hearings scheduled. 6. Old Business: Discussed the letter prepared by Liz. Janine will check with the HS to determine if it was distributed. Discussed committee support for the PD table at the Community Fest planned 19 September. No funds budgeted for the CSAC but Chief Elliot will approach the financial director about reserving $200. Information for the table will be printed by the police department. “Night to Unite” was successful again. The PD and Fire Dept visited 32 parties in various neighborhoods around town. Committee members discussed support for spring ‘neighborhood watch’ event as goal. 7. New Business Chief Elliot stated the PD is now fully staffed with 25 sworn officers. New hires have now completed training and are on their own for patrol shifts. Stephanie Smith will represent SVABW at the community fest table. The city council proclamation for DV month will be presented at the 10 October city council meeting. Betsy will attend for the committee. Rick Keeney noted that city residents concerned about teens sneaking out late at night to use Uber rides, breaking curfew. Parents should call the PD. CSAC should be on board in the push by Chief Elliott for additional officers for PLPD. Prior Lake staffing using sworn officers per 1000 residents is falling behind PD staffing in neighboring cities. Prior Lake has experienced a 22% increase in calls to PD for service while PD staffing has increased by only 4%. The city has no staffing increase planned for next year. 8. Other Business None. 9.
